Launching Script Gadget

Script gadget has been ticking along on idle or sitting on the back burner if you prefer culinary metaphors over automotive ones for about a year now. We started out with an ad supported Flash game, Plink, which did some interesting things but making money wasn't one of them.

So things have been on hold until the beginning of last month, when we launched a brand new Android phone game called Skeedle first as a paid app and now as a free, ad supported app. I'll be describing some of what we've learned along the way in posts over the next few days and tracking our results with AdMob. One very interesting thing that's already shaken out of this. According to the Android Market Skeedle only has four sales and one active user, but I've already seen 124 ad requests served by AdMob today. This makes me think it's already pretty widely shared unofficially.

We also have a simple recipe calculator, KitchenCalc and a free (no ads) live wallpaper,VisiSense. KitchenCalc has had four purchases at $0.99 and VisiSense has had about 4000 downloads so far.

Next post I'll talk about how we're reacting to what we've seen so far and then later we'll talk about the Android API and platform itself and what we've learned there with some code samples and links for more info.
